About a month ago Nokia released the much needed revision of it's rather
faulty bug filled firmware for the N97 supposed 'Flagship' handset.
A month on, and the troublesome handset still has more issues than a
autistic two year old on an overdose of Smarties. What with it's
temperamental and touchy screen menus, built-in software written by
three year olds, the N97 is fast proving to be more than just a phone
that was released with few fixable 'bugs'....
I've owned mine
for around three months now, having come to not only hating the N97 for
all it's annoying flaws, but have now lost all faith in Nokia as a phone
manufacturer.
The phone was released with firmware version
20.0.019 and was recently updated in March using Nokia's official
firmware updater software to version 21.0.045. An improvement in some
respects, but failing in so many others areas that Nokia claimed would
be addressed in the update.
I bought the phone after seeing
Nokia's promotional video which offered a fast snappy handset that
switched effortlessly between applications and promising to whisk the
user from screen to screen with snazzy special visual effects. However
in reality the phone was completely the opposite, with it's slow and
often unresponsive screen changes, buggy internal software, and so
poorly managed RAM the phone had to be switched off almost daily, to
recover from freezes and frequent software crashes.
All in all
my experience with Nokia has left me feeling really let down after
spending just short of £500.00 on a handset that was recalled by most
phone suppliers (Orange - O2 - T-Mobile) but to name a few,
unfortunately I was with Vodafone who were one of the few companies that
refused to recall the N97 handsets, I guess that shows how little
Vodafone care about it's customers too! They insisted their customers
could wait for the firmware update to be released saying that all would
be OK after, needless to say we were CONNED!
Watch this video to see the obvious comparisons of performance between the Nokia N97 and an Apple iPhone.
Have you had any nasty experiences with either Nokia N97 or other phone manufacturers? I'd be interested to hear your story....
